Shleiffer and Vichny (1994, 1998), and Hellman, Jones, and Kaufmann (2000) suggest that politicians’ intervention in business activities is more severe when institutional constraints are weak which is not the case in France. This seminar paper thus explores the importance of having political leverage in France based on a sample of firms with a CEO or a Board that have clearly stated their affiliation to a certain political party based on his own declaration, former participation in a public function or his participation in a political campaign or future government. In a country like France where the influence of government on companies should barely not exist, the idea is to examine whether public companies go through an economic improvement after their political declaration or during the mandate of their political affiliation or not.
