However sometimes, the collaborations with outsourced transportation firms do not go as smooth as wanted and problems arise. A firm that works with unstable and untrustworthy transporters will face delays on their deliveries to final clients, what may cause both costly penalties and unrepairable breaks on the firm/customer relationship. The objective of this work is to propose several approaches for allowing better information sharing and communication between transporters and companies in such a way both actors can benefit from the initiative. To achieve this goal, we interviewed professionals from several commercial companies in order to gather information mainly about the nature of the major problems faced by manufacturers and transporters when working together and what are the consequences. This work may be interesting for managers as it could help them to better understand the barriers to economic success when working with transportation partners and what could be implemented to improve their relationships. They could once for all solve costly and avoidable issues like missing and damaged merchandise or recurrent delays in deliveries.
