Automotive pioneers have been applying block chain technology to improve their supply chain performance, especially in procurement process recently. The common problem of automotive procurement, such as quality control to suppliers, workload in procurement process, cost saving, transparency, risk in international payment, and management time delivery is solved by blockchain technology.Blockchain technology can take many forms: public blockchain, private blockchain, permissioned blockchain, or consortium blockchain. Basing on their demands and business scales, the automotive companies will select the proper blockchain technology to implement for their business activities. Block chain tools like smart contract, and Internet of Things, distrusted ledger, are applied in the procurement process to enhance working efficiency, save cost, generate transparency, trace transactions, track quality control processes, and perform quickly risk-free international payment transactions. External and internal environment factors in the automotive industry demonstrate how blockchain can innovate the procurement process of automotive companies. Surveys of current data from automotive companies, and the points of view of executive managers in applying blockchain in the procurement process demonstrate the trends and willingness to implement blockchain in the automotive industry.
