CHAINE LOGISTIQUE ; GESTION DES STOCKS ; VIET NAMRésumé : In the complexity of supply chain, an enterprise has to face numerous difficulties such as inventory deficit or surplus, forecast inaccuracy and high total inventory cost. With many researches on solving these matters, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) was given as an alternative. In this paper, we will evaluate the efficiency when applying vendor managed inventory to a supply chain of a chemical distributor in Vietnam. The methodology is discrete event simulation by Excel. The core players in this supply chain are one retailer and one distributor. By author’s working experience for this distributor, it is understood that the current model used by this chemical distributor is semi-information sharing (forecast), whereas VMI requires not only forecast sharing but also sales data and inventory level sharing. Hence, in order to evaluate the efficiency of VMI, the objective of simulation is to compare three models, traditional supply chain (SCM), semi-information sharing (SIS) and VMI in term of forecast accuracy, total inventory cost and cycle service level. As a result, the best performance was found in VMI system. However, in fact, it is not easy to implement VMI because its successful implementation depends on many other factors.
