While currently not readily available or mainstream automation and the A.I that powers it is used within many working sectors including Supply Chain Management. Supply chain management involves the integration of information and business processes (Themistocleous, Irani, Love, 2004) and currently business IT systems already have become highly sophisticated and use basic A.I and automated functionalities. Enterprise Resource Planners (ERPs) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS’) make use of automation and A.I for basic repetitive tasks and data analysis. Further automating the supply chain is a continuation of a current trend rather than something altogether new. However, this trend is leaning toward the replacement of human being rather than simply aiding them in their work.
