One angle is they are constantly trying to find or establish a link between economic growth and financial market development. Financial markets have proven to be core to a country's financial system and understand them could be beneficial to individuals, institutions, and policymakers. This study is centered around financial markets in Cameroon and the aim is to determine the factors (macroeconomic and institutional) affecting the financial market development in Cameroon. Some of the core issues discussed are to identify the factors, establish a relationship between them and financial market development with evidence, and rate their financial market development sensitivity to these factors. The research question together with its sub-questions is answered through the use of a Calderon-Rossell model and the Autoregressive Distributed lag model. The case study is the regional exchange and Cameroon. Results showed that the factors identify affect stock market development in both the short and long-term. On this basis, policymakers should be more in control of their role within financial markets, create an atmosphere that favors investment and trading, increase public confidence, and not ignore the informal financial markets.
