Résumé : |
The distribution of local food such as fruits and vegetables from direct agricultural producers is a growing trend in how people consume fresh produce, and it is accelerated even more after the hit of the COVID crisis beginning of last year. French consumers have seen a big interest in this new kind of consumption, for many reasons such as for the health benefits, the better remuneration of the agricultural producers, and for the trustful and transparent link with the producers. But as for producers and consumers, this food channel involves problems and challenges.
This mode of consumption is being helped thanks to digital marketplaces. Thanks to digital tools, consumers and local farmers are put in contact and they can proceed to direct sales of local products. I would like to ask: “How do digital marketplaces facilitate the access of local food products and the development of Short-Food-Supply-Chains?”. I will be focusing on this interface as an alternative to sell and distribute local food, and I will explore the benefits and challenges of it.
In order to explore this research question, I did a case study on the French digital marketplace La Ruche Qui dit Oui. My analysis showed that consumers enjoy using this channel because of the aggregation facilities, the visibility and info given about producers and the available offers. Everything is easier and quicker. Producers increase their sales because they have more visibility, new clients and benefit from digital tools.
But it still raises the question of the accessibility and the democratization of local food products, because of the high prices of this type of consumption, reserved to the elite. |
