Résumé : |
The factors of glass ceiling have been studied and measured in various research studies. The present article reinforces and extends this evidence on a micro scale through a case study of a company in the retail and wholesale industry in France. The objective of the research is to analyze the explaining factors that impede and enable women to access managerial positions within the workplace. To this end, several interviews were conducted with Franprix employees and managers to identify the variables that limit or promote the professional development of women within the company. The topics addressed in this investigation are the causes of the glass ceiling, the removal of obstacles to women's full work autonomy, the equal and effective exercise of the positions to which they have access, and the challenges and also milestones of labor parity within Franprix. The research article is divided into three main sections: first, the literature review that defines concepts such as the glass ceiling and its explanatory factors. Second, a description of the methodology is made and the information collected through the research instrument is displayed. Finally, we proceed to the analysis of the findings in order to contrast them with the literature of other authors to generate a discussion around the topic. It is concluded that in the wholesale industry, specifically within the Franprix firm, women and men have different probabilities of occupying leadership positions. The available evidence supports the result through the glass ceiling hypothesis.
