This dissertation aims to determine if this is possible to determine the success or the failure of Mergers & Acquisitions analysing the performance of the companies.The majority of studies focus on a specific country to scrutinize these complex operations basing their investigations on a couple of indicators only. A minority of them investigated operations that occurred in the 2010s. That is the reason why our analysis is conducted on thirty-one European companies acquired in 2015 or 2016 and uses eight accounting metrics.Our findings show that Mergers & Acquisitions slightly deteriorate the operational performance of the target companies, but the results were highly statistically non-significant. It is therefore not possible to evaluate the success or the failure of Mergers & Acquisitions.
