MUSIQUE ; INDUSTRIE CULTURELLE SECTEUR ; CHANGEMENT SOCIALRésumé : When rap music emerged in the 1970s in the African American and Latinx communities in New York City and became a subculture in the 1980s, it gained mainstream attention for being platform for social and political
commentary for African-American and Latinos. Many rap songs address issues like police brutality, racism, poverty, and the struggles of inner-city life and rap artists have used their platform to raise awareness and advocate for social justice.
However, one thing is undeniable in rap music, whether it is in the lyrics or in the music videos : the degrading image of women. This dissertation will analyze in a first part, the birth and rise of rap as a political music genre defined by hegemonic masculinity, in a second part the many depictions and role of women resulting from it and lastly, the beginning, success and controversy of hip feminism and what is called « the baddest bitch » rap.Programme : MSc Cultural & Creative Industries Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=581675
