Résumé : |
In 2007, approximately 13.6% of American employees suffered from abusive
supervision at work. This figure proves that abusive supervision is widespread in organizations and that it is not a recent phenomenon (Tepper, 2007).
Abusive supervision is repeated hostile managerial behavior by a superior towards one or more employees (Tepper, 2000). Abusive supervision thus corresponds more broadly to subordinates' perception of continuous hostile verbal or nonverbal behavior on the part of their
supervisors, excluding any physical contact. (Tepper, 2000, 2007). Abusive supervision is a widespread phenomenon that has negative and very costly consequences for companies, particularly because of the increase in absenteeism or the decrease in productivity (Adangnito,
2013). In the United States, the cost of abusive supervision has been estimated at over $23.8 billion (Tepper, Duffy, Henle, & Lambert, 2006). |
