Indeed, in a globalized economy where the number of players in this market is increasing, and where competition pushes companies to try to do everything possible to stand out from their competitors, innovation seems to be the preferred means for many companies to remain competitive. However, the means to access innovation have largely evolved over the last thirty years to progressively become an outsourced capability for industrial companies. This evolution of the market, among others, has allowed the purchasing function to evolve, in parallel, rapidly by becoming an often strategic department of companies. In this study, we will see how the purchasing function, thanks to its agility and rapid evolution, can enable companies to stand out from their competitors by contributing to innovation.
