SOCIOLOGIEIndex. décimale : E-book Résumé : World social development has arrived at a critical turning point. Economically advanced nations have made significant progress toward meeting the basic needs of their populations; however, the majority of developing countries have not. Problems of rapid population growth, failing economies, famine, environmental devastation, majority/minority group conflicts, involuntary population migration, increasing militarization, and other broadly-based social, political and economic forces are challenging the capacity of people to meet their most fundamental needs. For many, the conditions required to live a quality life are being eroded. The thirteen papers contained in this volume explore a broad range of factors that impact on quality of life worldwide-globalization, regionalization, recently regained political autonomy, population migration, factors that contribute to health and illness, shortages in food and agriculture, the importance of the family, community and sustainable development in promoting quality of life and, even more fundamentally, the contribution of faith and spirituality in advancing personal and collective well-being in an otherwise turbulent world Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4020-511 [...] Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154507

It offers the application of agent-based models in demography, social and economic sciences and environmental sciences. Examples include population dynamics, evolution of social norms, communication structures, patterns in eco-systems and socio-biology, natural resource management, spread of diseases and development processes. It presents and combines different approaches how to implement agent-based computational models and tools in an integrative manner that can be extended to other cases Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/3-7908-1721-X Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154579 Allocating Public and Private Resources across Generations / Anne H GAUTHIER / New York, NY : SPRINGER (2006)

SOCIOLOGIE ; CLASSE D'AGE ; DEMOGRAPHIEIndex. décimale : E-book Résumé : In rapidly industrializing countries, demographic changes continue to have significant effects on the well-being of individuals and families, and as aggregate human and financial capital. These effects may be analyzed in terms of inter-generational transfers of time, money, goods, and services. The chapters in this volume greatly develop our understanding of the nature and measurement of transfers, their motives and mechanisms, and their macro-level dimensions, especially in the context of demographic transitions. The chapters include original empirical analyses of datasets from some twenty countries taking the reader beyond the American context in order to test the applicability of some of the theories developed on the basis of American data. They extend the traditional analysis of inter-generational transfers by examining different types of transfers, namely goods, money, assets, time, co-residence and visits. Furthermore, the chapters go beyond the study of traditional parent ? child transfers to examine transfers to kins and the bi-directionality of transfers Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/1-4020-4481-X Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154504
