Résumé : |
The purpose of this paper is to highlight the business opportunities for small French producers willing to export their products to Finland. In fact, from a small producer’s perspective, the Finnish monopoly market structure can appear obscure and inaccessible. This paper aims at demystifying the Finnish wine market by comparing the different ways – most of the time unknown - to import wines to Finland. After giving an overview of Finnish and French wine markets and their trade relation, this paper compares the different ways to import wines to Finland. More precisely, this research underlines a contrast between imports with Alko Oy, the off-premises alcohol retail monopoly and on-trade imports, mostly via restaurants and bars. Based on literature research, one importer interview and practical information given by Alko Oy, this paper explores the whole Finnish legal environment. In a last part, the findings suggest some managerial implications in order to export successfully wines to Finland. The main recommendations for small French producers are to adopt a high-quality positioning, be present online and follow ethic specifications. |
