Résumé : |
As most academic researchers studied the gig economy by being either super optimistic or super skeptical, the study aims at having a more realistic approach by focusing on experiences and beliefs from the practical field. I choose to focus on the French people experiences and beliefs regarding the gig economy, as France have a strong history on employee social rights. Considering the French historic commitment on labor rights, how do French people receive the rising of gig working, a work with less rights? Do they fear or expect the rise of the gig economy? Do they believe gig working will overcome the traditional work or not?
To answer these questions, a mixed methodology was used: 5 gig workers were interviewed, and 30 French workers answered a questionnaire. As a matter of fact, results show that French workers have a greyer vision than researchers. They have a positive mindset regarding gig working but prefer to be employees. They acknowledge gig working strong advantages but think current disadvantages are too high compared to traditional work. Finally, they are divided on the gig economy’s future and potential to erase the traditional economy.
