Résumé : |
As gig work seems to be on the rise and poses new challenges to the HR field in how to connect gig work with the traditional work system, this research paper examines the motivation of gig workers and their life quality. A survey, in which 95 people in Peru and Germany took part, showed that flexible working hours and work-life balance motivate people in both countries to work as gig worker. In Peru, another motivating factor is that salaries in a traditional job are not sufficient and employees are accordingly pushed to gig work. Depending on the motivation, the influence on the life quality can be positive or negative. The workers who voluntarily work as gig workers have an improved quality of life, since they can usually choose their job and divide the working hours them-selves according to personal preferences. Workers who actually prefer a traditional job often work on projects they don't like, but accept them because they don't know when and if they can find a new job. It’s a challenge for the HR field to give some access of social and legal security and social contact to the gig worker as they currently don’t have access. |
