The warehouse design is the foundation of an efficient supply chain. E-commerce retailers face numerous challenges when building their warehouse. Warehouse managers have to take into consideration many parameters when designing the warehouse: the number of stock-keeping units (SKU), the rotation of each of them, the seasonal trends, the commercial operations, the type of each product (if it is fragile, heavy, cumbersome). In this context, one of the main missions of warehouse managers is to optimize the warehouse design to deliver the customer’s order as efficiently as possible. Indeed, the e-commerce retailers face a big competition between themselves regarding product variety and fast delivery. This seminar paper will focus on a single e-commerce retailer to show how the warehouse can perform well thanks to its design. |
