Thursday, February 20th. The well-known MIT released a statement declaring that one of its artificial intelligence systems has completed an historical achievement: developing an antibiotic powerful enough to kill a so-called indestructible bacterium. Indeed, AI is disrupting every industry, healthcare is no exception. Machine learning and various branches of AI have already been integrated to few healthcare organizations and have fulfilled objectives or services in providing diagnosis, delivering care management, supporting clinical research. However, AI deployment in healthcare is not as advanced as one might think. Why is this adoption process taking so long when the entire industry could benefit from it? This paper focused itself on understanding how deeply AI will transform healthcare. To what extent are the emergence and development of AI changing established paradigms in the healthcare? The qualitative study conducted raised many points of attention. First, AI has the potential to change the way we are thinking healthcare. Moreover, AI holds this capacity to change work and organizational habits, changing completely how patient are being taken care of. Finally, utilization of AI in healthcare brings up groundbreaking societal debates. |
