Résumé : |
High expectations have been placed on the Social and Solidarity Economy, as a model based on social transformation and humanism. However, little is known about the motivations of women who represent the majority of the workforce but remain under-represented in the governance structure. Based upon the survey data collected, this paper examines the interplay between gender and the Social and Solidarity Economy. The results show that women tend to join this sector to be socially useful while achieving personal goals and self-fulfilment. On the other hand, women sometimes encounter inequalities and discrimination despite their high representation. Board composition, allocation of responsibilities and everyday sexism are recurring themes in the gender literature. The survey finds that these inequalities are directly or indirectly related to each other and mutually reinforcing. By precisely analysing the motivational factors and underlining the interrelation between professional equality issues, this article contribute to the existing literature on the Social and Solidarity Economy. |
