Résumé : |
In this paper, we investigate the influence of macroeconomic conditions on the capital structure of financial institutions (i.e banks) and their effect on capital requirements to determine the proper leverage. In this way, the approach is to underline the constraint nature of inflation variable and the dynamics that affect banks’ decisions on adjusting or not their capital structure. This analysis relies on a sample of 61 banks in 15 European countries in order to focus and highlight the risks from inflation in Euro area but also the limits of the organizational institutions to compete in such environment. According to the variables chosen, we find that inflation is positively correlated to Tier 1 capital ratios, which may provide a useful tool to support our assumptions. This study contributes to understand the bank’s leverage choices with regards to external factors, by revealing these impacts upon bank’s characteristics. |
