Résumé : |
Women are less likely to launch a venture, except in some specific fields, among which the environmental one. Environmental entrepreneurship generates more and more interest in developed and developing countries, and women are massively engaging in it. Yet, on the one hand, female entrepreneurship has been proved to do good to society; and on the other hand, environmental entrepreneurship is said to help reducing the climate crisis. The aim of this paper is therefore to determine what societal and personal factors encourage women to engage in an environmental venture, in order to look for ways to make female entrepreneurship and environmental entrepreneurship develop further in the future. After a review of the existing literature on the subjects mentioned, this paper will present the results of interviews conducted with ten women involved in ecopreneurship. The outcomes of the research are that gender role theory, that assigns specific roles and behaviours to both men and women, make women more aware of environmental issues due to their greater ethics for empathy and caring; more subjectively, they feel more at ease in a sector where there are already a lot of women, which bears sense and is based on values of non-judgment and inclusiveness. |
