Résumé : |
This study is questioning the effect of decarbonization on profitability for large automotive suppliers which are operating in France. As the concerns are more and more growing toward the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the automotive sector, focusing on the supply chain of cars is more relevant to understand what actions should be done to foster the carbon neutral transition among the whole automotive industry. In order to achieve this purpose, the Carbon Disclosure Project grades publicly available on their website to each OEM supplier were compared with two types of profitability ratios: margin ratios and return ratios. On the one hand results showed that for margin ratios, the decarbonization commitment of the firm is profitable only when you look at the Gross margin profit ratio. On the contrary, it is not profitable when you look at the EBITDA margin ratios. On the other hand, results highlighted that decarbonization is not profitable when you look at the Return on Invested Capital. Therefore, the results may shed the lights on the needs required by automotive suppliers to become carbon neutral because on the short term to medium term it seems that profitability is not improved with this kind of projects. |
