Résumé : |
This paper aims to see whether the COVID-19 had a positive or negative impact on the ESG implementation across corporations and on ESG investing trends in Europe. To do so, we will first, check if high ESG-score companies are more resilient during economic downturns, we will proceed by collecting the ESG-score and computing the daily log-normal return for the Euro Stoxx 50’s. This paper will also observe the evolution in number and size of ESG funds in Europe, we will also have a look to
a recent JP Morgan’s survey regarding investor’s point of view regarding the outlook for ESG implementation in Europe. We will find that a high ESG score is indeed synonym of resilience during crisis time and that companies who actively manage ESG risks are less volatile/risky. We will also find that ESG funds have been evolving rapidly over the 5 previous years but that the COVID-19 outbreak
gave that trend a strong momentum. Therefore, all the hypothesis that we tested are verified. |
