Résumé : |
Companies in the cosmetic industry are more and more willing to reduce their environmental impact along their supply chain. In order to be more sustainable, a growing number of companies are concentrating their efforts on packaging, in particular by switching from a single-use to a reusable packaging system. This seminar paper aims at providing insights on the following question: What are the challenges of the implementation of reusable packaging systems for companies in the cosmetics industry? To answer this question, a study of the literature has been conducted and completed with examples of initiatives conducted by beauty brands. It shows that packaging plays a key multifunctional role, but has a high environmental impact, which motivates companies to switch from single-use to reusable packaging systems. A classification of reusable packaging systems enables to assess both their economic and environmental impacts in the supply chain. We then underline that the implementation of reusable packaging systems presents opportunities for both companies and consumers, which suggests that such a system could be a win-win approach. However, implementing a reusable packaging system in the cosmetics supply chain comes with barriers for which we propose adapted solutions. |
