Résumé : |
This Seminar Paper examines the surfing industry under the scope of Green Supply Chain Management practices to understand what has been done so far and its consequences both on economic and environmental performances. Through sourcing, manufacturing, packaging and transportation, the production of surfboards, wetsuits and surfing equipment has an important carbon footprint regarding the surfers' tendency towards a carbon free way of life.
This study shows how three companies managed to work on reducing their environmental impact throughout the whole supply chain with green sourcing, manufacturing, packaging, transportation and reverse logistics.
The research concludes that if improvements had been done in the past years, especially in small surfing companies, they remain quite low if we take the surfing industry as a whole. Those implementations along the supply chain barely affected the companies when it is negative or neutral, while it became a clear source of competitive advantage when the outcome was positive. Bigger surfing companies need to comply to surfers' expectations in terms of lower carbon footprint of their surfing equipment. |
