Résumé : |
There are more than 2200 studies on the relationship between ESG and financial performance. However, the results provided by those studies are ambiguous and contradicting. This paper aims to contribute to the studies of the relationship by exploring it in the oil and gas industry. The Pearson and hypothesis tests are performed on 15 companies with the highest market capitalization in the industry with different sets of variables of ESG score and CFP (Gross Margin, EBIT Margin and Net Income Margin) in the time horizon of five years. The study finds that except for the weak relationship between ESG score and Gross Margin in 2017, there is no confirmed relationship between other variables in other years. The paper attempts to explain the result with the consideration of the Covid 19 effect, ESG score valuation metrics and so on.The paper discusses the directions on which the companies in the industry may attempt to increase the financial impact of their CSR and further discuss the necessity of externalities accounting and reporting to reflect the company's performance correctly. |
