Résumé : |
The desire from institutional and individual investors to better address sustainability issues in their investment decisions has fueled the growth of sustainable finance over the last decade. Growing investor need to better use non-financial information to influence asset allocation decisions to boost long-term value while better aligning portfolios with societal ideals has fueled the usage of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment methodologies. Concerns about the impact of climate change (GIEC report, 09/08/2021) and the repercussions of a pandemic have heightened awareness of environmental and social dangers in this respect.
ESG criteria provide valuable insight into how organizations are managed and operated in order to encourage long-term investment. Thus, through this study, I will attempt to determine the importance of ESG factors by industry and how ESG scores provided by VigeoEiris can identify the impact of ESG investments on ROA and Tobin's Q. To do so, I will use a panel data regression model to which I will apply a correlation test. The data set used for this study is extracted from the databases of the ESG data provider VigeoEiris, as well as from large volumes of financial data extracted from Yahoo finance and Bloomberg. The overall result will provide a perspective on how CSR activities could influence company value.
Using research papers, we will try to understand in the first part of the thesis, the reasons for the development of CSR, the evolution of regulations, the construction of ESG indices and their impacts on the financial performance of companies, especially in times of crisis. |
