Résumé : |
This paper aims to uncover what economic consequences in terms of direct costs, indirect costs, and opportunity costs the Covid-19 crisis had for women in the German automotive industry. For this specific challenges of the automotive industry are examined, and concrete recommendations of what Human Resources (HR) departments within organizations can and should do are given. This includes company internal measures as well as what HR can do to support governmental actions to mitigate the negative consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic for women. The most important findings include the toll the pandemic took on mental health of individuals as the shifting of work, life, and schools lead to greater stress and lower possible divisions between each of the mentioned areas. This negative development of mental health along with other factors lead to financial consequences for women that are especially grave in regard to opportunity costs. The measures suggested aim at providing informational support on governmental actions, aiding in finding external psychological help or employing company-internal psychological help, as well as as actions to balance out opportunity cost that, for example, result from gender bias in evaluation or training. |
