Résumé : |
This paper puts financial performance and environmental performance into perspective. We took as a sample the data of CAC40 companies over a period of 6 years. To measure financial
performance, we used Tobin's Q ratio, ROA, ROE and ROCE. Environmental performance is measured by greenhouse gas emissions. We have added a dummy variable that classifies companies' sectors of activity as polluting or non-polluting. The hypotheses studied are that there is a relationship between greenhouse gas emissions and financial performance and that this relationship is negative. To validate these hypotheses, we carried out statistical tests, which are correlation, t-test and linear regression. Following our analysis, we were able to validate our hypotheses, while cautioning that the results obtained are weak. Thus, we can say that financial performance is negatively related to the emission of greenhouse gases. However, further studies are needed to add environmental variables to have more statistically significant results. This study provides an additional reason for the top management of large companies to reduce their negative impact on the environment. |
