Résumé : |
The American Pop Music Industry is one of the main components of the Western culture and society, which can be linked to the question of gender and its performance. When we speak about gender, we make a link with feminism theories. Simone de Beauvoir explored the place and the exploitation of the woman, her body, and the restriction of opportunities through times and eras. Female artists are assigned to stereotypes in the music field and assigned to the genre, unpopular in the music field, like within the other fields of Western society. This context assigns constraints and difficulties in the management of female musicians’ careers, between financial success and non-recognition and the will of independence and reducing the gap between men and women, from female artists. From the rise of MTV in the 1980’s years and the appearance of new business models to the emergence of new types of careers for women nowadays, with new struggles and improvement, the management of a female musician’s career is specific to the place and the situation of women in society and within the field of music. |
