The financial landscape is in a state of reform, pivoting towards incorporating DeFi within the list of integral global assets, and exploration for asset managing enterprises attempting to expand their financial acumen must not idle behind if they seek to capitalise on the opportunity. Although historical data insights are measly in proportion to other assets, it is the leap to allocate resources and time that is suggested.
DeFi introduces novel mechanisms, all of which aim to ameliorate financial markets. However, concerns surrounding security and regulation have contributed to institutional hesitation in its advocacy. Conversely, TradFi, with its structured regulatory safeguards, continues to serve as the dominant asset model, albeit with inefficiencies.
Present macroeconomics underlines the need for venture. With rising national debt, authoritarianism and inflationary pressures, investors should seek to incorporate DeFi products. DeFi has demonstrated higher-yielding opportunities, with assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana significantly outperforming indices like the S&P 500 and QQQ in recent years. Quantifying these trends, examining their sustainability, and addressing strategic alignment avenues is ultimately the purpose of this thesis.
Throughout this inquiry, I shall elucidate the advantages, inherent drawbacks, and comparative performance against TradFi via empirical research and risk modelling, showcasing how asset managers can integrate trading strategies while mitigating risk to yield net positive returns. I intend to bridge the knowledge gap and assess DeFi’s capabilities in financial portfolios. Ultimately, projections suggest that DeFi’s adoption is just commencing and that its ceiling for growth is substantial in comparison to already matured asset classes.
