Titre : Amartya Sen's Capability Approach : Theoretical Insights and Empirical Applications Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Wiebke KUKLYS Editeur : New York, NY : SPRINGER Année de publication : 2005 Importance : XV, 116 p ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-3-540-28083-5 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Management
ECONOMIE INTERNATIONALEIndex. décimale : E-book Résumé : Kuklys examines how Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen?s approach to welfare measurement can be put in practice for poverty and inequality measurement in affluent societies such as the UK. Sen argues that an individual?s welfare should not be measured in terms of her income, but in terms what she can actually do or be, her capabilities. In Chapters 1 and 2, Kuklys describes the capability approach from a standard welfare economic point of view and provides a comprehensive literature review of the empirical applications in this area of research. In the remaining chapters, novel econometric techniques are employed to operationalise the concepts of functionings and capability to investigate inequality and poverty in terms of capability in the UK. Kuklys finds that capability measurement is always a useful complement to traditional monetary analysis, and particularly so in the case of capability-deprived disabled individuals Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/3-540-28083-9 Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154576

ECONOMIE INTERNATIONALE ; EUROPEIndex. décimale : E-book Résumé : One of the main features of the world economy since the late nineteenth century has been the growing dominance of the American economy in both quantitative and qualitative terms. Aspects of this development - e.g. rationalization or the world-wide diffusion of Coca-Cola - have been researched, but largely in isolation. Americanization of the European Economy provides a comprehensive yet compact survey of the growth of American economic influence in Europe since the 1880s. Three distinct but cumulative waves of Americanization are identified. Americanization was (and still is) a complex process of technological, political, and cultural transfer, and this overview explains why and how the USA and the American model of industrial capitalism came to be accepted as the dominant paradigm of political economy in today's Europe. Americanization of the European Economy summarizes the ongoing discussion by business historians, sociologists, and political scientists and makes it accessible to all types of readers who are interested in political and economic development Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/1-4020-2934-9 Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154574 An Annotated Timeline of Operations Research: An Informal History / Saul I GASS / New York, NY : SPRINGER (2005)

THEORIE DE LA DECISION ; AIDE A LA DECISIONMots-clés candidats : Economics Computer science Mathematical optimization Operations research Engineering mathematics Economics/Management Science Operations Research/Decision Theory Optimization Operations Research, Mathematical Programming Economics/Management Science, general Mathematics of Computing Appl.Mathematics/Computational Methods of Engineering Index. décimale : E-book Résumé : An Annotated Timeline of Operations Research: An Informal History recounts the evolution of Operations Research (OR) as a new science - the science of decision making. Arising from the urgent operational issues of World War II, the philosophy and methodology of OR has permeated the resolution of decision problems in business, industry, and government. The Timeline chronicles the history of OR in the form of self-contained, expository entries. Each entry presents a concise explanation of the events and people under discussion, and provides key sources where further relevant information can be obtained. In addition, books and papers that have influenced the development of OR or helped to educate the first generations of OR academics and practitioners are cited throughout the book. Starting in 1564 with seminal ideas that form the precursors of OR, the Timeline traces the key ideas and events of OR through 2004. The Timeline should interest anyone involved in OR - researchers, practitioners, academics, and, especially, students - who wish to learn how OR came into being. Further, the scope and expository style of the Timeline should make it of value to the general reader interested in the development of science and technology in the last half of the twentieth century Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/3-540-31248-X Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154575
Titre : Asian Economy and Finance : A Post-Crisis Perspective Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Dilip K DAS Editeur : New York, NY : SPRINGER Année de publication : 2005 Importance : XXIV, 309 p ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-387-23383-3 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Management
ASIE ; ECONOMIE INTERNATIONALEIndex. décimale : E-book Résumé : Topicality of Asian economy has refused to fade for almost four decades; if anything it has been levitating. The Asian economy has changed markedly since the economic and financial crisis of 1997-1998 and is continuing to evolve. As a scholarly subject matter, Asian economy has not stopped attracting academicians, policy mandarins, decision makers in the arena of business and students of Asian economy. The Asian crisis was a cataclysmic event for the region and brought to the surface several systemic limitations, like those in the financial sector, corporate governance, regulatory oversight, legal framework, and exchange rate management. Managers of Asian economy need to get to the bottom of these acutely problematical systemic issues. Additionally, Asian economies need to change with the demands of time and devise their post-crisis development strategy. Asia?s growth model, that served it so well for four decades, is overdue for renewal so that it can re-strengthen its bonds with the ever-evolving regional and global economic reality. The old growth model is likely to be less relevant and effective in the post-crisis future of the Asian economies. It is sure to run into the wall of diminishing returns. An outstanding feature of Asian Economy and Finance: A Post-Crisis Perspective is that unlike most Asia-related books, it is written in a comprehensive and authoritative manner and covers large areas of Asian macro-economy and finance. The noteworthy areas of focus include global and intra-regional trade and investment, as well as financial and monetary aspects. In-depth discussions have been provided on regional integration through expanding trade, financial flows, regional production networks, financial and monetary co-operation. In taking a contemporary or post-crisis view of the Asian economy, this book offers the newest knowledge related to relevant themes on the Asian economies as well as the latest concepts. In a succinct manner, this book deals with the principal normative and positive strands with which one need to be properly familiar in this subject area. This tightly written volume covers a great deal of ground and imparts knowledge on the Asian economy related themes to students, researchers and policy makers alike. Asian Economy and Finance: A Post-Crisis Perspective is neither overly technical nor model-oriented. It is easy to access for the target readership because of its descriptive analysis style, which stops short of mathematical formulations and econometric modeling. Many students and other readers who have good analytical minds and sound knowledge of economic principles feel lost in mathematical formulations. This writing style makes it accessible to a much larger number of readers Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : http://library.ez.neoma-bs.fr/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/b101404 Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154580
