Arising from the urgent operational issues of World War II, the philosophy and methodology of OR has permeated the resolution of decision problems in business, industry, and government. The Timeline chronicles the history of OR in the form of self-contained, expository entries. Each entry presents a concise explanation of the events and people under discussion, and provides key sources where further relevant information can be obtained. In addition, books and papers that have influenced the development of OR or helped to educate the first generations of OR academics and practitioners are cited throughout the book. Starting in 1564 with seminal ideas that form the precursors of OR, the Timeline traces the key ideas and events of OR through 2004. The Timeline should interest anyone involved in OR - researchers, practitioners, academics, and, especially, students - who wish to learn how OR came into being. Further, the scope and expository style of the Timeline should make it of value to the general reader interested in the development of science and technology in the last half of the twentieth century Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : https://neoma-bs.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/3-540-31248-X Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154575

Although modern Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) systems could provide significant support, APS implementation numbers in these industries remain low. Therefore, based on an in-depth analysis of three sample fresh food industries (dairy, fresh and processed meat), the author evaluates what APS systems should offer in order to effectively support production planning and how the leading systems currently handle the most distinguishing characteristic of fresh food industries, the short product shelf life. Starting from the identified weaknesses, customized software solutions for each of the sample industries are proposed that allow to optimize the production of fresh foods with respect to shelf life. The book thereby offers valuable insights not only to researchers but also to software providers of APS systems and professionals from fresh food industries Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : https://neoma-bs.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/3-7908-1646-9 Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154529

It offers the application of agent-based models in demography, social and economic sciences and environmental sciences. Examples include population dynamics, evolution of social norms, communication structures, patterns in eco-systems and socio-biology, natural resource management, spread of diseases and development processes. It presents and combines different approaches how to implement agent-based computational models and tools in an integrative manner that can be extended to other cases Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : https://neoma-bs.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/3-7908-1721-X Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=154579 Agricultural Biodiversity and Biotechnology in Economic Development / Joseph COOPER / New York, NY : SPRINGER (2005)
