Titre : Microeconomic Foundations I : Choice and Competitive Markets Type de document : e-book Auteurs : David M. KREPS Editeur : Princeton University Press Année de publication : 2012 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9781400849147 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : Microeconomic Foundations I develops the choice, price, and general equilibrium theory topics typically found in first-year theory sequences, but in deeper and more complete mathematical form than most standard texts provide. The objective is to take the reader from acquaintance with these foundational topics to something closer to mastery of the models and results connected to them. Provides a rigorous treatment of some of the basic tools of economic modeling and reasoning, along with an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of these tools Complements standard texts Covers choice, preference, and utility; structural properties of preferences and utility functions; basics of consumer demand; revealed preference and Afriat's Theorem; choice under uncertainty; dynamic choice; social choice and efficiency; competitive and profit-maximizing firms; expenditure minimization; demand theory (duality methods); producer and consumer surplus; aggregation; general equilibrium; efficiency and the core; GET, time, and uncertainty; and other topics Features a free web-based student's guide, which gives solutions to approximately half the problems, and a limited-access instructor's manual, which provides solutions to the rest of the problems Contains appendixes that review most of the specific mathematics employed in the book, including a from-first-principles treatment of dynamic programming Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : https://neoma-bs.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.scholarvox.com/book/88815871 Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=533378 Public Capital, Growth and Welfare : Analytical Foundations for Public Policy / Pierre-Richard AGÉNOR / Princeton University Press (2012)

BANKS Editeur : Princeton University Press Année de publication : 2012 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9780691154992 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : Have you ever daydreamed about digging a hole to the other side of the world? Robert Banks not only entertains such ideas but, better yet, he supplies the mathematical know-how to turn fantasies into problem-solving adventures. In this sequel to the popular Towing Icebergs, Falling Dominoes (Princeton, 1998), Banks presents another collection of puzzles for readers interested in sharpening their thinking and mathematical skills. The problems range from the wondrous to the eminently practical. In one chapter, the author helps us determine the total number of people who have lived on earth; in another, he shows how an understanding of mathematical curves can help a thrifty lover, armed with construction paper and scissors, keep expenses down on Valentine's Day. In twenty-six chapters, Banks chooses topics that are fairly easy to analyze using relatively simple mathematics. The phenomena he describes are ones that we encounter in our daily lives or can visualize without much trouble. For example, how do you get the most pizza slices with the least number of cuts? To go from point A to point B in a downpour of rain, should you walk slowly, jog moderately, or run as fast as possible to get least wet? What is the length of the seam on a baseball? If all the ice in the world melted, what would happen to Florida, the Mississippi River, and Niagara Falls? Why do snowflakes have six sides? Covering a broad range of fields, from geography and environmental studies to map- and flag-making, Banks uses basic algebra and geometry to solve problems. If famous scientists have also pondered these questions, the author shares the historical details with the reader. Designed to entertain and to stimulate thinking, this book can be read for sheer personal enjoyment. Titre : A Tale of Two Cultures : Qualitative and Quantitative Research in the Social Sciences Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Gary GOERTZ Editeur : Princeton University Press Année de publication : 2012 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9780691149707 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé :
Some in the social sciences argue that the same logic applies to both qualitative and quantitative methods. In A Tale of Two Cultures, Gary Goertz and James Mahoney demonstrate that these two paradigms constitute different cultures, each internally coherent yet marked by contrasting norms, practices, and toolkits. They identify and discuss major differences between these two traditions that touch nearly every aspect of social science research, including design, goals, causal effects and models, concepts and measurement, data analysis, and case selection. Although focused on the differences between qualitative and quantitative research, Goertz and Mahoney also seek to promote toleration, exchange, and learning by enabling scholars to think beyond their own culture and see an alternative scientific worldview. This book is written in an easily accessible style and features a host of real-world examples to illustrate methodological points.Nombre d'accès : Illimité En ligne : https://neoma-bs.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.scholarvox.com/book/88867043 Permalink : https://cataloguelibrary.neoma-bs.fr/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=484686
