Investing in Europe : Old problems and new opportunities Ed. 1 / Elisabetta TARASCO / PETER LANG (2022)
Titre : Investing in Europe : Old problems and new opportunities Ed. 1 Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Elisabetta TARASCO Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2022 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9782875744203 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : The book addresses the issue of investment in Europe, adopting a European economic policy approach. In the first part, a review of investment policy in Europe, as well as a macroeconomic theoretical perspective, are provided to better appreciate recent developments within a new investment narrative. By analyzing the context in which investment support policies have taken place at European level since the origins of what is now the EU, through the 2008 financial crisis, and considering the effects of the current pandemic crisis, the book proposes possible solutions based on internal and external investment plans for a new European economic model. In particular, three aspects are examined. First, the implication of the green transition on the social dimension; second, the opportunity to strengthen the partnership with Africa; third, how a large-scale investment plan could be financed. Titre : Korea, the Iron Silk Road and the Belt and Road Initiative : Soft Power and Hard Power Approaches Ed. 1 Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Ralph Michael WROBEL Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2022 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9783631860663 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : Korea as a “middle power” in the last decades saw a growing importance, partly through greater economic clout, partly through greater cultural and soft power (“K-pop”), and partly through collective action in institutions like G 20. However, recent instability in Northeast Asia, plus growing trade conflicts and political conflicts in the region and worldwide, endanger this position. Moreover, the tremendous rise of China in economic, geo-political and cultural terms overshadowed the Korean development. However, also here the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative seems to dominate the headlines, as well as the policy fora and practical business decisions. Therefore, this book discusses an urgent, indeed pressing topic: how can middle powers like South Korea and Germany benefit from closer economic and political linkages across the Eurasian landmass, in particular the Belt and Road Initiative dominated by China.? Should they rather jump on the bandwagon or should they follow distinct own initiatives, either in their region or inter-regionally? Titre : Local Government Budgetary Autonomy : Evidence from Bangladesh Ed. 1 Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Mohammad TALUKDAR Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2022 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9781800795280 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : The empirical research that has shaped this book was drawn from a combined literature stream comprising political psychology, applied economics, and public management issues such as decentralization, local government finance, local governance, and organization and budget theories. The principal premise of this monograph is that a greater autonomy of the local state helps improve the effectiveness of decentralization and good local governance. Bearing in mind the broader challenge of problems with decentralization in Bangladesh, the main research concern here is the exploration of nature, cause, and consequences of a specific deep-rooted problem – the dimensions of influence and magnitude of autonomy in budgeting decisions of local government Union Councils in Bangladesh. The study explores the de facto and de jure issues that affect the autonomy of local government Union Councils of Bangladesh in their budgeting decision-making process, leading to poor or good local governance. The study looks at how and to what extent the budgetary autonomy of local government Union Councils is affected. It also explores the impact of this autonomy on local governance. Titre : On the Breakout of Chinese Economy Ed. 1 Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Qiren ZHOU Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2022 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9781433172946 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : Reform has long been a consensus in China, but after decades of rapid growth, there still remain numerous intractable barriers and institutional constrains to solve, and new problems are continuously emerging, all these hinder the implementation of China’s deepening reform. How can China break out of those encirclements? This book is a collection of the author’s articles on China’s experience of social and economic reform which proposed that new momentum is needed for an overall deepening of reform. Based on his years of research on real-world economics in rural land reform, state-owned enterprises reform, urbanization and urban governance, technology innovation and industrial upgrading, the author introduces the concepts of state and market, firm and law, property rights and contracts, transaction cost and system cost, comparative advantage and competitive advantage etc. Whether the momentum of reform can penetrate multiple levels of complex networks, from the top to grassroots and local to central, is a decisive factor in China’s deepening reform. This penetrating power has the connotation of the comprehensive decision making, technological innovation, and optimism in the face of uncertainty. Reform seeks to break, while innovation seeks to create. The future is better than one thinks.
