Titre : The China Model : Experience and Challenges Ed. 1 Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Yongnian ZHENG Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2021 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9781433172007 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : The world has witnessed the rise of China, and there is a sustained debate on the China model. While some scholars believe that the China model is obsolete, others regard the China model as a threat to democracy. This book takes an empirical approach and regards the China model as it is and looks into different aspects of the China model, ranging from economic growth, social development, central-local relations to the development of internal pluralism, the rise of civil society and rural democracy. Given the fact that China’s reform and opening up since the late Deng Xiaoping has taken place in the context of globalization, the book draws implications of the China model for the world. Particularly, the book attempts to examine the impact of China’s socio-economic development model on democratization. Titre : The Institutions of State Business Relations : The Case of Food and Agriculture Sector of Georgia Type de document : e-book Auteurs : Joachim AHRENS Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2021 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9783631854013 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : State intervention in economic activities to drive development requires specific institutional prerequisites that maintain strategic collaboration between the state and businesses. Arguing that the design of institutions of state business relations is critical for successful state intervention in economic activities, this book seeks to understand the nature of the institutions of the state-agribusiness relations in Georgia and its functional compatibilities to the institutions of strategic SBRs. It analyses the nature of SBRs in Georgia through the lens of the New Institutional Economics (NIE). It employs a qualitative research strategy for the systematic collection, organization, and interpretation of the data. Data from 39 interviews, documents on relevant regulations and laws, and the reports from the international organizations are triangulated to address the research question. SCHULTZ / PETER LANG (2021)
Titre : The President’s Law Firm : The Office of Legal Counsel from Roosevelt to Trump Type de document : e-book Auteurs : David A. SCHULTZ Editeur : PETER LANG Année de publication : 2021 ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 9781433184895 Note générale : copyrighted Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : This book explores the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) in the U.S. Department of Justice. Its scope is a comprehensive study of the Office—history, functions, and impact on governmental decisions (mainly presidential and legal positions of the executive branch but also the Office’s actions influence either Congressional or federal judicial decisions). The book focuses on the evolution of the OLC over the last few decades, how the office straddles the line between politics and law, as well as how it interacts with the rest of the Department of Justice. The main argument is that the OLC provides an essential role for both the president and the rest of the national government but does not receive nearly the attention or scrutiny it deserves. This doctoral thesis shows how human activities are characterized by multiple interconnected contexts and demonstrates the advantages of using a multi-layered model to examine interactions between social, economic and cultural factors. The model presented here offers large benefits for various target groups as it can be applied to a wide range of research fields. Consequently, this analysis supports an interdisciplinary approach to economics.
